Plot: Willy Wonka opens his factory to five lucky kids in order to find an heir. After all the kids get weeded out, Charlie takes Willy to see his Dad and then they work together ever after.
Theme: Family is more important than work and money. Without family, success is irrelevant.
Good Points:
- The scenery is euphoric and vibrant.
- It has an interesting to twist to the old classic with Gene Wilder.
- The music is deep and moving with universal messages.
- Johnny Depp portrays Willy Wonka excellently.
Downfalls:
- Plot is slightly dark.
- Not as warm and fuzzy as the original.
Buy/Rent/Skip: If you like Tim Burton buy this one. If you don’t prefer Burton’s dark style, skip.
